Myofascial Release Therapy
Introduction
Myofascial Release Therapy
We’ve all experienced muscular aches and pains. We’ve all complained about painful ‘knots’ found deep within certain muscles. Those ‘knots’ are actually called trigger points which arise from overworked muscles and are related to stiff and tight areas within our myofascial tissue.
Myofascial release therapy aims to relieve the tension within the fascial system as a whole. It is key that the therapist will first identify areas of myofascial restriction before starting a treatment to increase mobility. It is important to be aware that myofascial restrictions can commonly be found in areas away from the site of pain but if left untreated can cause altered muscle and joint movements.
